INTRODUCTION

BetOnline's tagline is 'Because You Can' – and what US-based sports wagering fans can do at BetOnline www.BetOnline.ag is bet on both US-based and non-US-based sporting events, from the big leagues to minor events. This sportsbook likes to keep things simple for their customers, and that includes accepting bitcoin as a currency (BetOnline is one of only a tiny handful of gambling companies that allow that), and providing a fast and furious mobile betting app for all internet-enabled smartphones and tablets.

FEATURES & OPTIONS

As soon as you login to the BetOnline sports betting app you'll notice that this mobile app encompasses far more than just sports betting. Via the top menu you get access to four sections: Sports, Horses, Casino and Live. You also gain easy access to the deposit screen where you can fund your wagering account.

The main sports available are the most popular US sports of course, but in addition BetOnline seems just as keen to attract non-US-based sports betting fans as also included are sports not known for their popularity in the States – cricket and rugby in particular.

At the bottom of the main sports menu you'll see the 'Future & Props' menu. This gives you access to longer term events rather than one-offs, such as the winners of the NHL title, head-to-head selections on the National Football League (NFL) draft and winners of big tennis events.

One annoyance with this app is that if your account balance currently stands at zero, more often than not when you click on any menu you're redirected to the cashier page. You can of course stop this annoyance by placing some funds into your account.

If you're more into single events, then just click any one of the mains sports listed. From there you will be taken through to the leagues that are available, and from there you can select the events that are forthcoming. You're only given the adjusted odds to bet with, and you need to select the odds and the amount you wish to wager to add it to your bet slip.

The amount of information available with the app is minimal, and is restricted to starting pitchers and whether they are left or right handed for MLB games, and details on the projected spread for other sports.

If you choose the 'Horses' menu you're taken through to BetOnline's racebook. You'll then see a list of racetracks that BetOnline intends to cover. Select your track and then your race, and you'll be given a list of runners and riders. Click the odds of any selection to add it to your bet-slip.

The 'Live' section of the app gives you a lot more in the way of functionality, and does not just cover live events. You'll see a list of the events available that day, plus another sub-menu of live events. Clicking on any event will bring up a selection of propositions – for example in tennis games you can bet on a player to win a particular set, whether the number of games played will be an odd or even total, and the score of the next game. Just click the selection to add it to your slip.

Via this menu you can access a full list of events for any particular day in which live betting options will be available.

The casino options via the 'Casino' menu are very limited – blackjack, baccarat, casino war, poker three and caribbean stud, plus three versions of video poker and three slots.

USER EXPERIENCE

If you're expecting something fancy-looking from BetOnline, then the chances are you are going to be disappointed. This is a very basic app that seems to act simply as a menu system. There's hardly any superfluous information at all, although the live betting section is a little more detailed than other sections.

You can easily manage all aspects of your BetOnline account via the app, including your banking. As mentioned above, the app does seem to want to forward you to the cashier page at every given opportunity, which does eventually become annoying.

INSTALL & BONUS

You'll need to sign up for a BetOnline account before you can use the app on your mobile device to start your sports wagering. If you head to the BetOnline desktop site you can sign up for an account. Just click the 'Click to Join' button to be taken through to the registration screen. You'll then need to fill in all your details and respond to the email that BetOnline will send you to confirm your registration.

You will receive a 25 percent bonus on your first deposit at BetOnline, although you will need to deposit a minimum of $50. The maximum bonus you can obtain is $1,000, and you will need to rollover your bonus via the sportsbook (not including the racebook or casino games) six times before you can cash out the bonus and any winnings. Use the promo code 'FIRST' to claim this bonus, and note that you cannot make a withdrawal from your account within thirty days of claiming this promotion.

Once you're a BetOnline customer, make sure you're attentive to their promotions page as they do offer a number of promotions on a regular basis.

There is no install process with the BetOnline sports betting app. Just visit the BetOnline site via the link above and you'll be transferred through to the mobile-optimised version of the site on your smartphone or tablet. Because the site is only written in basic HTML you should be able to use it on any mobile device that supports web browsing, including Windows Phones and BlackBerrys.

BETTING MARKETS

The markets that are available via the app are restricted to sports that are mainly popular in the US and the UK. More obscure markets such as volleyball, handball and table tennis are not available.

Additionally, the vast majority of the markets available are purely sports-related, although at the time of this review there were some betting options for the 2016 US Presidential elections.

CONCLUSION

US-based sport betting fans are not exactly inundated with options when they want a mobile solution to their wagering options, so it's great that BetOnline are here to offer another solution to their 'on the go' sports betting needs. It's also good to see a sports betting app that is forward-thinking enough to include Bitcoin as a payment option.

Having said that, this app need a little care and attention to bring it up to the standards of other similar apps, as it is almost as basic as basic can be. If you do prefer the 'no frills' approach, then the BetOnline sports betting app will suit your tastes like no other.
